The Pirrera S. Leonardo' homestead, nestling among organic citrus
and olive trees, is a favoured holiday destination for those who
love to relax in the countryside. Indeed it is possible to do
courses in medicinal botany, cookery and crafts; for those who
are interested, a guide can lead you through the farm and explain
the various activities. The homestead sells vegetables in season
and excellent organic olive oil certified by QC&I International
Service s.a.s. This farm is unusual because the citrus orchard
is found in an old tufa quarry, a unique example of environmental
reclamation.

The homestead has 8 rooms available (double, triple
and four-bed rooms), all with ensuite bathrooms and heating, sleeping
25 in total. The furnishings are rustic and countrified, old-fashioned
but functional. It was built in 1960 and has been recently restored.
It is open all year round and has a comfortable lounge for its guests
and a characteristic dining room.

For the sporty, the homestead offers mountain biking,
bowls, archery, table-tennis, trekking/nature trails along the banks
of the S. Leonardo river. A horse riding centre and tennis courts
are a short distance from the farm.
Delicious Sicilian dishes, prepared with natural
and genuine ingredients, are served in a cosy and friendly atmosphere.
The menu includes soups with vegetables and pulses, couscous, home-made
pasta, local meats, sausages, mixed salads and citrus salads, pastries
stuffed with sweet `ricotta', with almonds or honey, rice puddings
and biscuits made according to `grandma's' recipe.
Thanks to its position, one can easily reach the
major cultural and tourist attractions of the provinces of Siracusa
and Catania. Augusta and Siracusa preserve the remains of ancient
Greek civilisation; the Necropoli di Pantalica, 20 km away; the
Greek city of Megara Hyblaea, 15 km away; Mount Etna, 50 km away
and Acireale, famous for its carnival, 40 km away. An absolute must
is the nature reserve of Pantani di Vendicari, a real paradise where
you can dive into the crystal sea. Bird-watching is recommended,
as this place is a stop-over for birds that migrate from Africa.
