The Casa dello Scirocco homestead is an old aristocratic country
mansion. The villa, a listed building, was a pleasant shelter
from the torrid African wind. Indeed the rooms are naturally cooled
by an ingenious water ventilation system, invented by the Arabs.
Among over 13 ha, orange trees and organic vegetables are grown.
Ostriches, chickens and horses are bred. The homestead sells extra-virgin
olive oil, honey, jams and vegetables. It is only 15 km from the
sea.

is 2 km from Carlentini bus/railway station and 15 km from Catania

The building dates back to the 18`" century and
was restored in 1987. It was built on a cave that has a Turkish
bath from Roman times. Guests are put up in ten original rooms dug
out of the prehistoric caves along an old river path and in a just
as original apartment made out of an old irrigation basin. The rooms
are furnished with period pieces and have heating, kitchenette and
ensuite bathrooms, able to sleep 30 in total. The `Cm dello Scirocco'
is open all year round, minimum stay two rights.

You can play table-tennis, go for bike rides and
horse-lovers have a riding school available. There is a beautiful
swimming pool among the orange trees for those who like a refreshing
swim.
The 'Casa dello Scirocco' serves rustic tasty platters
made from age old recipes that are simple yet unforgettable. Among
the pasta dishes: farfalle (butterflies) "allo scirocco", orange
flavoured risotto and lemon flavoured flat spaghetti. Main courses
include: orange flavoured chicken pieces, braised meat cooked in
cognac with potatoes seasoned with rosemary, barbecued kebabs garnished
with oranges, raw shallots and cauliflower salad. Desserts are exquisite:
the biancomangiare covered with chocolate and almonds plus the little
hot pastries with custard. Five-day courses in aphrodisiac Sicilian
cuisine are organised.
There are numerous sites in the area to visit, of
cultural and environmental interest. The archaeological park of
Carlentini is 5 km away, the Valle dell' Anapo 10 km, the impressive
Necropoli di Pantalica 30 km and Siracusa, rich in history and architecture
is 35 km away and well worth a visit.
