The Site

The `Galimi' homestead, set in its 6 ha of land, a few km from Calatabiano, the medlar town, sits on a green hill from which you can see Mount Etna on one side and the Ionian on the other. It is an organic farm, certified by the AIAB association. Lemons, tangerines, other fruits and vegetables are grown and sold on the farm. The `Galimi' homestead is a great place to spend days at one with nature and rediscover the simplicity of the rural world.

How to Get There:


By car, from A 18 Messina-Catania highway, exit at the Giardini Naxos pay toll and carry on towards Catania on the SS 114 state road. Cross the Mcantara river, continue for a further 2 km until you get to the IP services at the 56+100 km mark. The homestead is 50 km from Catania airport and 8 km Taormina-Giardini Naxos railway station.


Accomodation:


Guests are put up in a recently built house, 2 km from the sea. Units are on the ground floor, with ensuite bathrooms, heating and kitchen. Outside there is a pretty garden. The furnishings are typical and functional, the lounge is ample and comfortable. The homestead has wheelchair access. It sleeps 12 in total. It is open all year round, minimum stay three nights.


Sport & Activities:


A horse riding centre is located 3 km away, where you can have riding lessons with an expert instructor. Tennis courts, five-a-side, go-kart track, scuba diving and hang gliding are all nearby at 2 km. There is a golf course 25 km away.


What to See:

The homestead is close to the main tourist attractions of eastern Sicily. You must not miss S. Filippo festival, patron saint of Calatabiano. Following ancient tradition, on the third Sunday of May, a statue of the saint is carried down a steep hill by the faithful. The 16" century castle, that dominates the view on the Ionian coast from Taormina to Riposto, is certainly worth a visit. Acireale, 20 km away, is famous for its carnival, baroque monuments and picturesque little streets facing the lava rocks and clear blue sea. `Galimi' homestead is 19 km from Etna and 2 km from San Marco d'Alunzio beach, where you can visit interesting churches and a Norman castle. Taormina, jewel of the Ionian, is only 10 km away.
