The Site

`Borgo degli Olivi', an ancient manor, nestles between the Nebrodi Regional Park and the Tyrrhenian coast, in the valley of the Tusa river. The building is surrounded by secular olive trees and by thick Mediterranean maquis. The homestead boasts an old olive press and an ancient mill, where a permanent exhibition of rural traditions and civilisation is on show. It is an extremely relaxing place to holiday, in the quietness of the countryside by the sea or in the mountains. The farm specialises in producing extra-virgin olive oil, jam, and cheese. The farm uses organic and animal-friendly methods of production. Cheese is made from milk produced on the farm. English and French are spoken.

How to Get There:

By car, from the SS 113 Messina-Palermo state road, exit at Tusa junction; the farm is a further 6 km and is sign posted. The nearest railway station is Tusa, 6 km away.

Accomodation:

`Borgo degli Olivi' is an old 16`" century country house, fully restored in 1995. There are 5 rooms available with ensuite bathrooms, Tv and heating; the country house sleeps 20 in total. It is open all year round, no minimum stay. Dogs are allowed. The interior is rustic and intimate. Guests have a lounge at their disposal.

There are lots of things to do around the farm: bowls, table tennis, pleasant bike rides, courses on antiques, parlour games and cultural events. There is a horse riding centre 2 km down the road. Moreover, one can go trekking in the nearby Park, or to the beach at Castel di Tusa for a sunbathe.

The Cuisine:

`Borgo degli Ohvi' is the perfect place to discover the secrets of traditional Sicilian cuisine, enhanced by the exquisite home made olive oil. You'll enjoy fresh cheese and olives as antipasti, home made pasta, mixed roast meat and stuffed chicken, with farm vegetables. For the sweet tooth, plenty of pastries stuffed with sweet `ricotta' or marmalade.

What to See:

Worth seeing are the ruins of the important Greek town Halaesa (4 km away), the impressive sculptures in the Fiumara d arte of Castel di Tusa, contemporary art in the landscape, and of course the quaint little village of S. Stefano di Camastra, world famous for its unique ceramics. Not to mention seaside Cefalù, with its beautiful sea and monuments. And do not miss the patron saints' festivals in the surrounding villages, which evoke rural customs. During the festivals local crafts are for sale.
