The Site

Set amid green pastures and woodlands, where nature's beauty never ceases to amaze, `Villa Mara' is a characteristic stone farmhouse in harmony with the surroundings. At an altitude of 500 m, 8 km from the sea, with a sea view, the homestead is cool and fresh during the summer months. Its on 5 ha of land, mainly cultivated with olives, medicinal herbs and seasonal vegetables. Poultry and horses are bred. `Villa Mara' produces and sells excellent extra-virgin olive oil, jam, preserves in oil and Mediterranean liqueurs.
How to Get There:


By car, from SS 113 PalermoMessina state road, exit at the fork for Reitano-MistrettaNicosia. After the town of Reitano follow signs to the homestead. It is 8 km from Santo Stefano di Camastra railway station and 120 km from Palermo airport.
Accomodation:


Guests are hosted in a rural stone building dating back to the late 1800s, recently restored in keeping with surroundings and original characteristics. `Villa Mara' has 3 double rooms and 2 miniapartments, sleeping 14 in total. The rooms, all comfortably furnished, have ensuite bathrooms, kitchen, and heating. The homestead is open all year round. An ample yet cosy sitting room is available for guests.

Sport & Activities:


Pony riding for kids. Tennis, bowls and table-tennis are available, 1 km away. `Villa Mara' organises guided excursions to the Nebrodi Regional Park, where one can go trekking and bird watching. The surrounding area is ideal for those who want to go on relaxing walks and enjoy the fresh air.

The Cuisine:

Local traditional dishes exclusively made from genuine farm produce, are served in a warm and friendly atmosphere. One may begin with antipasti of the house, including `ricotta' cheese, mushrooms, olives and local salamis. Highly recommended is the home made fresh pasta. Among the main courses are barbecued vegetables and roasted meats and to round it off, excellent home-made pastries with `ricotta' cheese.

What to See:

Santo Stefano di Camastra, famous for its ceramics, exported worldwide, is only 8 km from the homestead. A few km away, the Fiumara d ante in Castel di Tusa and the ancient ruins of Halaesa. For the more sociable, there is Cefalù, with its quaint little historical centre and nice beach. Besides the excursions to the nearby Nebrodi Regional Park, one can go on trips to the Aeolian islands and wallow in the thermal mud on Vulcano or dive into the crystal waters of Salina.
