The Site

More than a 1000 m a.s.l., set in the heart of the Nebrodi Regional Park, the `Valle Maira' homestead is surrounded by the intense greenery of the woods. It is the ideal place for those who are looking for a holiday in the countryside in a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The surrounding environment is unique for its diversity: one wanders through hazelnut and olive groves on the valley floor to oaks and chestnuts higher up and, lastly, to the pastures surrounded by cerris and beech. Vegetables and nuts are grown organically, certified by Ecocert.

How to Get There:


By car, from the A20 Messina-Palermo highway; exit at Rocca di Caprileone junction, and take the SS 113 state road to Tortorici. Coming into the town, follow signposts to the homestead. From the A18 Catania-Messina highway, exit at the Fiumefreddo junction and take the SS 120 national road until Randazzo and then the SS 116 to Tortorici.


Accomodation:


The homestead is open mainly in the summertime, from June to September. Guests are accommodated in a centrally heated typical building with 4 rooms, all impeccably furnished, totalling 10 beds. Valle Maira is available also for group bookings throughout the year. A cosy lounge is at the guests disposal for reading or chatting.


Sport & Activities:


The homestead is an excellent starting point for invigorating rambles through the woods, discovering unspoilt locations or historical and picturesque villages. For horse lovers, an `ANTE' centre is located 3 km away. Within the vicinity it is possible to go mountain climbing on the rocky mountains that rise above the Nebrodi Regional Park. Nature lovers can go and study numerous protected species of plant and animal life that populate the reserve.


The Cuisine:

The restaurant is open only to homestead guests. The simple and healthy cooking makes use of local products and traditional peasant recipes. Mixed roast, animals reared free-range, together with vegetables and mushrooms - the local delicacy - are the icing on the cake of a holiday at one with nature.


What to See:

The Nebrodi Regional Park comprises of 21 villages that are of interest from a historical and archaeological point of view, and also in terms of the great outdoors. In August local patron saint festivals are celebrated every night. Worth a visit, on August 15", the local hazelnut harvest celebrated with a festival in Montalbano Elicona, while local `ricotta' cheese production is celebrated on August 22"d in Casale Floresta. Local craft is exhibited in Tortorici. For sun-seekers. the Tvrrhenian coast is iust a few km awav.
