The Site

Set in a green and peaceful valley gently declining towards the Tyrrhenian shore, the "Fiumara" holiday farm is only 3 km away from Capo d'Orlando, and just 6 km away from the Nebrodi Regional Park. The sun, the colours and unspoilt nature are the ingredients for an ideal vacation, a chance to experience new sensations in a friendly and down to earth atmosphere. Jam and preserves are produced in the most natural way and sold as souvenirs of laid back country farm life.

How to Get There:

By car, from the A20 Messina-Palermo highway, exit at Brolo junction, follow the SS 113 national road in the Capo d'Orlando direction, take the fork towards Sinagra and drive along for 3 km. The homestead is 6 km away from Capo d'Orlando bus/railway station and about 90 km from Catania airport.

Accomodation:

A rural building dating from 1900, it has recently been restored to its former architecture. It has 6 bedrooms totalling 18 beds, all comfortable and light, with ensuite bathrooms and separate entrance, antique furnishings and great attention to details. Minimum stay one week. The homestead has a lounge and a large dining room; it is open all year round.

Sport & Activities:

Activities available at the homestead include archery, five-a-side, fitness, hiking, cookery and craft courses. Children have a playground at their disposal. Nature lovers can go walking in the Nebrodi Regional Park and admire the various animal species populating the area. A horse riding centre is at a distance of 3 km.

The Cuisine:

The homestead serves traditional country dishes made from natural wholesome ingredients. The menu includes olives, cheese, `ricotta' cheese, vegetables and mushrooms as appetisers. Pasta dishes consist of home made fresh pasta with local vegetables, tomato sauce and aubergines, anchovies and ricotta. Main courses include barbecued meats, kebabs and pork sausages or oven-baked little farmyard roosters with barbecued vegetables. For dessert: the famous Sicilian 'cassata' and a selection of pies. For nut lovers, there are plenty of hazelnuts, produced on the farm.

What to See:

Besides Capo d'Orlando, that organises various summertime events, there are pretty little surrounding villages with characteristic religious festivals. Among them, Brolo and Sinagra, where country festivals celebrate local produce and craft exhibitions are held. Gioiosa Marea, popular among tourists for its crystal clear sea water, is worth visiting also for its Main Church with artworks by Gagini. At Raccuja, the Branciforti castle, the Medieval suburb and the Main Church where a statue of the Virgin Mary believed to be miraculous is kept. And then the Tholos, primitive stone constructions made by shepherds according to ancient Greek tradition.
