`The Vecchio Frantoio' is a typical 17" century Sicilian farm.
It consists of three courtyards located in the middle of the 100
ha farm. It stands in the Madonie Regional Park, on a hill overlooking
the Scillato valley, facing Polizzi Generosa. It is framed by
majestic mountains, a pure and uncontaminated place rich in Mediterranean
plant life. The homestead boasts a long tradition of olive oil
production. A splendid 19`" century oil mill is exhibited in the
middle of a spacious hall. The homestead produces and sells organic
olive oil, wheat, grapes for winemaking, ricotta and other typical
Madonie cheeses, both fresh and mature.

The homestead was skilfully restored in 1995. Guests
are put up in comfortable and spacious apartments with bathroom,
kitchen, or in highly original loft rooms, sleeping 30 in total.
All rooms are furnished with antiques and have central heating.
A little chapel is used for celebrating principal religious Holy
days.

'Il Vecchio Frantoio' organises horse riding or walking
along the Park tracks, or mountain biking. One can play table tennis,
billiards, bowls and do archery. A playground is available for kids.
Five-a-side pitches, soccer fields, basketball and volleyball courts
can be rented nearby.
The homestead proposes the typical Madonie dishes,
characteristic for their simplicity and use of genuine ingredients.
Among the pasta dishes, you can find wild fennel, vegetables, pulses
and mushrooms, pork jelly made to an ancient recipe, or pasta with
finely `frayed' meat. All main courses are made from farm meat.
Worth trying are: rabbit and mixed fried vegetables marinated and
served with salted cod. For desserts, typical home made pies, `cannoli'
stuffed with sweet ricotta and 'cassate'.
Possible trips: Cefalù (20 km), famous for its sea
and splendid Norman Cathedral; Polizzi Generosa (8 km), 15`" century
town with 32 churches, and the enchanting pockets of the Madonie
Mountains that preserve the charm of old local traditions (Gangi,
Castelbuono, Pollina and Petralia). The homestead is an ideal base
for visiting the Madonie Regional Park.
