The Site

`Villa Dafne' is about getting back to nature and rediscovering rural life as it used to be, walking up to the dawn chorus, going for long walks in the fresh sweet smelling air, being nourished with genuine fruits of the land: this is about the most relaxing and peaceful vacation to go on. The homestead is surrounded by thriving green countryside, rich in old lodges, tracks and sheepfolds, evidence of bygone rural life. The main activity on the farm is animal breeding, sheep, goats and horses. Olives, vegetables and almonds are grown with care and attention. Ricotta and other cheeses, organically grown vegetables and almonds are sold direct on the farm.

How to Get There:


Easily reachable by car from Palermo, along the expressway PalermoAgrigento, turning off at the junction for Roccapalumba-Alia. By train, take the Palermo-Roccapalumba-Alia line. On request, guests can be met by a courtesy vehicle at the station.


Accomodation:


`Villa Dafne' is a recently restored old farm, with 8 rooms equipped with heating, telephone and all the necessary for your comfort. The rooms are furnished in the local style, with wooden ceilings, for a relaxing and pleasant stay. The spacious halls lend themselves to banquets and exhibitions.


Sport & Activities:


For those who love walking in the green thriving countryside, with its tracks and sheepfolds, old farmhouses and rustic stone shelters still used by man and animals, at `Villa Dafne' you can go hiking, mountain biking and horse riding with expert guides. A secure playground is available for kids. A tennis court is 1,5 km from the farm.


The Cuisine:

The cooking is delicious and rustic, making use of all farm produce, from vegetables to goats milk, using Grandma Giovanna's antique recipes. At the table it is possible to try ricotta and other cheeses, olives, mushrooms, omelettes with vegetables, fresh home made pasta, mixed roast, pork sausages, roasted vegetables, preserves and the typical almond pastries, scattati and buccellati, all washed down with excellent local wine. On Sundays the homestead makes ricotta according to traditional techniques, which can be sampled by guests on home made bread.


What to See:

The churches of Sant'Anna and S. Giuseppe and the Madonna delle Grazie sanctuary in Alia are worth visiting and, above all, the Grotte della Gurfa caves, a beautiful example of ancient rock architecture. Culture enthusiasts can enjoy numerous trips: `Villa Dafne' is between Palermo, Agrigento and Cefalù therefore it is possible to discover the ruins of ancient civilisations or head towards Palermo.
