The Site

Deep in the typical Sicilian countryside, on the gentle hills dominated by the Madonie mountain chain, the 'Fontana Murata' homestead proposes a relaxing holiday at one with nature. This well kept farm respects the rules of nature, and consequently it enhances the landscape making it pleasing to the eye. This typical Sicilian 300 ha farm, 600 m a.s.l., cultivates wheat, olive trees and vines; flocks of sheep graze in pastures, in a landscape where colours change according to the different seasons. Two pine woods make the place even greener. One can buy good white wine, olive oil, ricotta cheese and other freshly made cheeses.

How to Get There:

By car, from Palermo follow SS 113 Palermo-Agrigento state road and exit at the Manganaro-Enna fork. Keep to the main road and follow signs for the Roccapalumba and Alia fork. The homestead is 10 km from the fork, direction Valledolmo. The nearest railway station is Valledolmo, 1 km from the homestead.

Accomodation:

Guests are put up in a recently restored and comfortably furnished lodge. Guests can enjoy the large open spaces, relaxing atmosphere and pleasant climate. There are 6 rooms, four quadruple and two double, all with ensuite bathrooms, heating and a fridge. The homestead is open all year round, no minimum stay. An equipped camping area is located near the building.

Sport & Activities:

You can: learn to horse ride, join guided excursions through the woods and along the streams, go for bike rides through the typical Sicilian countryside, play tennis on a floodlit tennis court or participate in the farming activities.

The Cuisine:

On the menu are many dishes made almost exclusively from farm products: vegetables, meat and Fresh home made pasta. For antipasti: tripe prepared according to an old-fashionedrecipe, tiny focacce with spleen or barbecued mushrooms. Pasta dishes not to be missed: big ravioli with ricotta, that look like big sweets, vith pork ragout and almond sauce. There are lots of main courses to choose from: lamb, barbecued sausages in breadcrumbs, stuffed pork haunch. Last but not least, are the tasty desserts.

What to See:

Grotte della Gulfs caves and the Madonie regional park make a nice trip, or the little villages in the Madonie mountains, with their artistic and historical heritage. The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento and the near thermal baths in Sclafani Bagni are certainly worth it. Cefalù with its beautiful beaches and clear warm water is an hour by car.
